VASCO: Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday inspected the progress of grade separator at Dabolim Airport and informed that 99 per cent of work has been done and remaining will be completed in the next three days.
Godinho along with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC) official, Traffic Police, Airport Authority of India Dabolim Airport director and others inspected the progress of grade separator.
Later, speaking to the media persons, Godinho said that the traffic used to come to standstill at the airport especially during peak hours. At that point of time, I had promised the people to solve this problem by having flyovers, now a grade separator is a sort of a flyover and is almost ready for commissioning. The grade separator’s work has been completed almost 99 per cent and only one per cent minor work which is remaining will be completed in the next three days.
“I will be meeting the Chief Minister on Wednesday evening and after discussion will decide on the date for inauguration of the grade separator. This completion of grade separator work is a receipt of the multiple departments working in sync despite of COVID-19 Pandemic,” he said.
Commenting on the beautification of surrounding area of Dabolim Airport, Godinho said that we are hoping for some sort of improvement. The Airport Authority of India Dabolim Airport has also given funds of around Rs 15 crore to manage waste from this area.
He also emphasised that one major problem of bird hits will not be there if there are no garbage dumps. Modern garbage treatment plants have been tendered which may likely come up in next eight to ten months time and the garbage will be managed. From this garbage, the gas will be made and from that efforts are being made to generate power.
Furthermore, he assured that he will request the Tourism Department to look into some sort of beautification of the airport area and also some businessmen will be asked to undertake beautification under corporate social responsibility.
It may be recalled that on Saturday, Herald carried the news about the pending work of the grade separator at the Dabolim Airport. At that time the Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho had said that the work is in progress and shortly the grade separator will be functional.
