PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has revised the examination pattern for students of Class IX and XI in an attempt to prepare them early for the board exams.
The new system will be implemented from the coming academic year and will replace ranks with ‘absolute grading’ in all subjects for both academic as well as school assessment subjects.
“The revised pattern of tests and examinations in respect of theory and year round work for Class IX and Class XI has been approved for implementation from academic year 2016-17. This will be applicable for mid terms exams also,” GBSHSE Chairman J R Rebello told Herald.
As per the pattern, each non-practical subject will have a mid-term test of 20 marks and a first-term examination of 80 marks along with assignment of 20 marks in the first term. While the theory mid-term test will consist of 20 marks and second-term examination will be of 80 marks along with a project of 20 marks.
For the Science subject, the mid-term test will have 20 marks and first-term examination of 65 marks along with practical examination of 20 marks and assignment of 20 marks. The second term will have a practical based project of 20 marks in addition to the 65 marks theory and 20 marks practical.
Similarly, for the students of Class XI, the Science subjects will have a mid-term test of 20 marks and first-term examination of 55 marks along with practical examination of 20 marks and theory based assignment of 10 marks in the first term. The second-term examination will consist of 55 marks along with practical examination of 20 marks and practical based project of 20 marks.
The Goa Board has also set the duration of the exams, allotment of project and practical work to students and covering each subject portion for the respective exams.
“The pattern along with the timing set with it will offer students the opportunity to get accustomed to the situation when they actually appear for the board exams in their next year (Class X and Class XII),” Rebello said.
The board has also introduced a nine point scale for absolute grading wherein a student will have to secure any grade from A to G in a particular subject provided he/she secures minimum H grade separately in theory and year round assessment.
