MARGAO: Recalling the contributions of late Matanhy Saldanha on his 74th birth anniversary, Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) and Goencho Ekvott have demanded withdrawal of all ‘destructive’ mega projects like double tracking, five-star resorts, mega housing, etc.

At a function at Cansaulim Market Circle on Monday, the wife of Matanhy and ex-minister Alina Saldanha, GRE and Goencho Ekvott commemorated the birth anniversary of late Matanhy Saldanha.

Stating that the late leader was against double tracking, GRE President Agnelo Rodrigues said, “Matanhy was against destructive mega projects like double tracking, 5-star resorts, mega housing, etc which the state is trying to bulldoze over us even after a large section of the society is opposing it.”

“We appeal to the State government to withdraw all projects which are against the interest of the State and Goans.  If Matanhy was alive he would have fought tooth and nail to see that these projects were scrapped,” he stated.

GRE General Secretary Olencio Simoes stated that Goa had lost a dedicated warrior whose love was only to save Goa and Goans for posterity. He appealed to the youth, “Emulate late Matanhy Saldanha so that we have great leaders like him who had worked selflessly, which currently the state of Goa is in deficit.”
