Nadia’s family questioned too
PANJIM, JUNE 4
The Crime Branch on Friday recorded statements of Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco and family members of Nadia Torrado, even as the minister, who was close to the deceased, was kept inside the Dona Paula office the whole day for interrogation.
Pacheco, who entered the CB office at 10.30 am, appeared at 7.15 pm after which he was surrounded by journalists. But the minister, who appeared unperturbed, refused to answer any queries from the media and maintained he would speak at a press conference. However, he didn’t specify the day or time of the conference.
Nadia’s estranged husband, her mother and two brothers were also present at the Crime Branch and remained there for the entire day. However, the husband’s statement was also recorded and at 4.40 pm he was taken away from the Crime Branch.
It is learnt he was taken to the police headquarters inside the Director General’s chamber. But it is not known why he was taken there.
The Crime Branch initially refused to talk to media persons after the minister had left in the evening, but after they refused to budge, Police Inspector Sunita Sawant called them inside her cabin where she answered the queries.
Not wanting to disclose much, Sawant said the investigation was open and Nadia’s mother and the minister were called again tomorrow for further recording of their statements.
When questioned how long the minister was interrogated, the PI said she had questioned him for a long time but didn’t give further details. Whatever was asked was part and parcel of the investigation and nothing can be disclosed at this juncture, she said.
On a question whether the Crime Branch had received the post-mortem report of Nadia from Chennai, the PI said “no”.
Nadia’s mother continued to maintain the family was being harassed for no reason. We have no complaints against anyone, the mother and brothers complained.
