GSHC to shut outlets doing low business

PANJIM: Goa State Horticultural Corporation (GSHC) has decided to close down 50 horticulture outlets in Goa, which have been doing very less business and have not been working as per expectations.

Addressing the media, GSHC Chairman Kiran Khandolkar said the corporation will soon issue close down notices to the 50 horticulture outlets as people have complained that the outlets are only open for a short period and then close down.
“We will close down outlets that are not working efficiently and in place of these an additional 250 new outlets will be given to those who can run them efficiently,” Khandolkar said.
He added that the horticulture supermarket at Altinho is being renovated and will be thrown open on October 5, in which fruits, vegetables and other daily requirements will be sold. Such supermarkets will be opened across Goa depending on the response the first one gets.
He said the corporation is looking to export the local variety of chilli to the Gulf countries so that local farmers get a higher profit and that the corporation is in talks with major exporters in this regard.
Khandolkar also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in transferring the Tivim land, which was acquired for building a cricket stadium to carry out an agricultural project, which will house supermarkets, where local farmers can sell their products.
