The office of Deputy Collector Mormugao organised an awareness rally were over 200 students participated. The rally started from Headland Sada junction in Mormugao and culminated at Bogda in Sada.
Speaking to reporters, Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu said that the rally was held following directions by the Election Commission to create awareness about the special summary revision program from September 15 to October 14, to ensure that maximum youth get enrolled in the electoral rolls and actively take part in the voting in the forthcoming Assembly polls.
“Increasing reluctance among youth to participate in politics and exercise the right to vote is particularly alarming, thus as per the directions of the Election Commission we decided to hold this rally with the participation of youth,” said Mormugao Constituency Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) and Jt Mamlatdar Mormugao, Vinod Dalal.
Meanwhile, a similar rally was organised by the Election Returning Officer (ERO) at Dharbandora.
Around 300 students from Abhinav High School and Atal Behari Vajpayee Higher Secondary School, Dharbandora along with the staff of Mamlatdar office of Dharbandora participated in the rally from Mollem panchayat to the check post displaying placards with messages requesting all the eligible voters to enrol their names in their respective constituencies.
Addressing the gathering after the rally, Dharbandora ERO Agnelo Fernandes said, “Voting offers every eligible citizen a medium of expression. Voting is their responsibility as it is a right given to them by the Constitution of India.”
“Voting is an honour conferred upon every citizen. Every vote counts and therefore everyone has to enrol themselves,” Fernandes added urging those who will attain age of 18 as on January 1 next year to enrol their names in the voters list.
In Sanguem around 500 students participated in the rally.
Government officials explained the objectives of the campaign and said that BLOs and supervisors will visit houses, collect the data of the new voters so as to enrol them.
