GSIA hails Minister’s stand on workers strike

VASCO: The Goa State Industries Association (GSIA) has complimented Labour and Employment Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate for taking a firm stand that the striking workers of a company situated in the Verna Industrial Estate violated the terms of contract and were guilty of misconduct.

GSIA President Damodar Kochkar said that labour union leaders and the opposition parties should not take advantage of the situation and vitiate the friendly employer-employee relations in the State.

“This decisive stand taken by the Labour Minister in spite of pressure from labour leaders and politicians will send a clear message to the other companies and also to the employees to have cordial working relationship. Friendly working atmosphere is a must to get more investment and generate more employment in the State.”

Kochkar said that the company had taken over a sick unit at Verna Industrial Estate to start this new activity of manufacturing high technology air conditioners a few years ago. It brought in investment and generated employment in the State and has been employing mostly Goan employees in their earlier washing machine unit which is one of the first units to be started in the State.
