PANJIM: Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has identified nearly 50 new plots for setting up environment-friendly industrial units. The corporation has also sanctioned infrastructural works worth around Rs 10 crore in various industrial estates.
While GIDC is in the process of starting a new industrial estate at Panchwadi and expansion of the existing industrial estate at Shiroda, it has identified nearly 1.8 lakh square metres of land in Dharbandora for a new industrial estate. GIDC will also take possession of the estate at Latambarcem in Bicholim by December, concentrating on promoting pharma industries.
The GIDC Board that met on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Ganesh Gaonkar approved Rs 10 crore infrastructural projects for the industrial estates at Verna, Shiroda, Kundaim, Panchwadi, Tuem, Pissurlem and Margao.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Gaonkar said the board approved pending and necessary infrastructural works. He said that on July 24 the board will decide on allotment of fresh 50 plots in the industrial estate of Panchwadi, Shiroda.
“These 50 are new plots whose allocation will be done in the next meeting. GIDC is also in the process of taking over unutilized or underutilized plots lying vacant for years,” Gaonkar said. The corporation could take over nearly 30 such plots.
Stating that the GIDC Plot Allotment Regulations 2014 prohibits red industries in the State, Gaonkar said that with new industrial estates coming up and expansion of existing ones, the major focus will be on pharma apart from IT.
A total of 1.8lakh square metres of land have been identified in Dharbandora for the new industrial estate, the tender for which will be floated in the coming months.
