Vows to scrap Mopa and work for special status for Goa

PANJIM: The Goa Su-Raj Party has taken a firm stand on retaining Dabolim by vowing to relocate the Indian Navy to neighbouring Karnataka and scrapping Greenfield Mopa airport. The party has promised to work for special status for Goa under Article 371 of the Constitution, women’s safety and empowerment and safeguarding environment among other issues in its manifesto released Friday.
The party said that Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party which were undecisive over Mopa should pass a resolution in the Goa Assembly so that the Centre can scrap the airport project.
General Secretary Floriano Lobo said that their woman candidate for North Goa was under tremendous pressure and that they would declare her name only when she files her nomination on March 24 along with Youth President Savio Rodrigues who will contest from the South Goa parliamentary seat.
GSRP has shown its inclination to re-start regulated legal mining under full government control and punishing all those involvement in illegal iron ore mining.
The draft manifesto comprises 30 promises divided into five sections – Land, Resources & Identity, Economy & Social Welfare, Women & Children, Third Gender & LGBT, and Environment.
The issue of transgender has also occupied space in the manifesto with the party claiming it will help them live a decent life and ensure they are not found on the streets begging or in prostitution ring. More so, the draft aims at encouraging women above 18 years of age to represent in all political positions from Zilla Parishad upwards according to their percentage in the population while it also promises to discourage girl adolescent marriages in all communities. The party is also set to take up reworking the Gadgil Mukherjee formula on revenue sharing.
