VASCO: The Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) in its 18th general body meeting gave its in-principal approval for the project of constructing an eco-friendly crematorium at Maimollem, Vasco under the IDMT scheme
In a letter sent to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer (CO) regarding this proposal, the civic body was asked to forward their resolution of the council, which is to be executed by GSUDA. This and the relevant documents such as ownership documents of the property, site plan/ survey plan and certificate from the CO and Municipal engineer stating that the said work has not been taken up under any other scheme or agencies.
MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut acknowledged that MMC had received the letter and said that a decision will be taken only after the proposal is placed before the council meeting and after the views of all councillors are taken.
Opposition MMC councillor Murari Bandekar said that, if such an eco-friendly project is coming up and if people are benefiting from it then it is very good. He however emphasized that all the necessary documentation and procedures need to be followed properly.
“There was an issue with regards to the suspicious changing of the ‘zone’ category last time. I had mentioned this during the council meeting that the Chairperson should write to the Planning and Development Authority asking to retain the changed zone. Further, the proposal to construct Hindu crematorium project which has come from the Murgao Hindu Samaj should be accepted by the Chairperson and such a better facility should be made available for the people of Vasco,” he said.
Ex-Chairperson of MMC Kritesh Naik Gaunkar concurred with the opinion expressed by councillor Bandekar.
