PANJIM: Claiming that the proposed ropeway project from Panjim to Reis Magos will help in generating revenue to the civic body, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has assured to obtain all necessary permissions from the City corporation.
The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) had earlier this week issued a notice to GTDC seeking its reply on the ongoing work on the ropeway project, which has not been approved by the corporation.
“We assure that the drawings and plans will be submitted to the CCP for approval, and GTDC will obtain all necessary clearances and permissions as mandated by law and will take CCP into confidence and obtain necessary permissions before actual commencement of work on site,” GTDC executive engineer Allan Pereira said in his reply to CCP.
GTDC also expressed willingness to make a presentation of the project to Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado and the councilors. “The project will be a signature project for the city and will not only generate revenue for CCP, but also attract high end tourists, and generate employment opportunities to hundreds of Goan youth,” Pereira said.
The Rs 157 crore project is executed by Menus Advertising Pvt Ltd. “The company is only undertaking soil testing at the site, so as to enable them to prepare detailed drawings and structural designs for the project and no other work is being carried out at this stage,” he said.
Pereira said that testing of soil and geological investigation is a pre-requisite before the project can be designed.
