PANJIM: Goa University executive engineer Amit Srivastava was sent to 14 days judicial custody by the North Goa Special Court on Tuesday. He was arrested by Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the court also heard arguments in a fresh bail application and reserved its order for Wednesday.
Opposing the bail, ACB submitted in court that it is a white collar crime and they want to investigate whether the accused is a habitual offender. ACB also submitted that they need to check whether Srivastava had accepted bribes from other contractors, and that the accused is a native of Uttar Pradesh so custody is required to check if ill gotten wealth has been invested there.
ACB added that the accused is not cooperating with the investigation and has been giving evasive replies.
Srivastava was arrested for accepting a bribe from a staff of the housekeeping firm Panorama Enterprises owned by Hema Sundar Reddy.
According to the complaint, the executive engineer was demanding five percent of the total value of the work awarded to the housekeeping firm of Goa University campus buildings. Srivastava is charged with section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
