GU plans to start 5 yr French course

TALEIGAO: In the view
of massive demand for foreign language courses, the Goa University (GU) has
plans to start an integrated 5 year French M.A. language course subject to
approval from the academic council.

Speaking to
Herald, GU Registrar, V.V. Reddy confirmed that the GU is the process of
finalizing the course, “Due to the high demand for foreign language courses,
the university has plans to start a five year integrated M.A. course in French
language” he said

However,
there is no confirmation whether the new five year integrated M.A. will begin
from this new academic year.

Sources from
the university have said that over 100 students opt for foreign language
courses at the university and adding up this 5 year integrated M.A. course in
French language, the university wishes to attract students to the finest
capacity of the departments.

“This will
be a fresh course with a dynamic syllabus which will deal in politics,
philosophy and cultural studies which is sure to attract students to opt for
this course. The GU has plans to start this course but subject to approval of
academic council” sources revealed

Sources have
further clarified that the course is an integrated course which includes BA+MA
and it may be possible that a student can opt out after graduation but again
with academic council approval.

Meanwhile it
is witnessed that there is an acute shortage of foreign language translators in
the country which is a multibillion dollar industry and with the introduction
of this five year integrated M.A. in French the students are sure to get well
placed in the industry.

Goa
University is the only institution in the country which has the Portuguese department
that offers a master’s programme in the language.
