In a remarkable turn of events, a woman missing from Panchmahal, Godhra district of Gujarat, woke up from an 11-year coma in Kolkata. With the assistance of local police, she was successfully reunited with her family residing in the remote village of Bhamaiyya, Godhra.
Geeta Baria vanished in 2013, leaving her family distraught and resigned to the possibility of never seeing her again. However, hope reignited when they received a call from a mental health institute in Kolkata, where Geeta had been in a comatose state.
Promptly, the Panchmahal district police intervened to aid Geeta’s family in travelling to Kolkata to bring her back home. Inspector Pravin Ashoda, affirmed the police’s commitment to ensuring the family’s reunion, stating, “The district administration has arranged their travel on humanitarian grounds. Once formalities are completed, they will bring back Geeta Baria to her village.”
The breakthrough came on February 10, when a doctor from Kolkata’s Pavlov Institute contacted the Panchmahal district police control room, revealing that Geeta had regained consciousness and could recall details about her family.
With the diligent assistance of the police, the hospital verified Geeta’s village and family details, facilitating communication between her and her loved ones through a video call.
Geeta, who has three children – two sons and a daughter, is now reunited with her family after 11 long years. The family, grappling with financial hardships exacerbated by her absence, eagerly awaits her return, cherishing the opportunity to rebuild their lives together.
