PANJIM: Expressing confidence that National Institute of Technology Goa will get the land allotted to them, such that they can start construction and move into their own complex, Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo requested all concerned authorities responsible for grooming and nurturing NIT Goa to remember the basic fabric of our tradition and heritage while formulating its development strategies.
The Governor also hoped that NIT would achieve its noble goals by producing responsible engineers, scientists and technocrats by carrying out its mission with a passion and vision based on fusion between cutting-edge knowledge in science and technology and the highest values of our time-tested and age-old spirituality, values and traditions.
Wanchoo was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on ‘Vision and Mission of NIT Goa-A Road Map” organized by the NIT Goa, at International Centre Goa, Dona Paula Saturday. He strongly felt that technocrats and professionals should at times consider venturing out of their comfort zones and take to politics as a profession and serve society and to fill the gap when time and circumstances demand it.
“The National Institute of Technology, Goa is a new born baby, which should have its own unique mission and vision. As a new born, it will have its own problems,” he said.
Dr V K Aatre, Chairman BOG, NIT, Goa, and Mangurish Pai Raikar, Chairman, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry also spoke on the occasion.
Prof G R C Reddy, Director NIT said that students are admitted to B Tech programmes in NITs on the basis of ranks obtained at All India Engineering Entrance Examination.
While 50 per cent seats are reserved for students of the state in which the particular NIT is located. The balance 50 per cent seats are open for students from across the country on merit.
