Guv inaugurates cleanliness drive

PANJIM: Governor Mridula Sinha inaugurated the ‘Clean Panaji Mission’ in the presence of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Environment Minister Alina Saldanha, to mark the beginning of the cleanliness drive, under the Swach Bharat Nital Goem programme.

Speaking to the media, Sinha suggested forming a committee for environment protection and cleanliness drive. She said, “A committee should be formed for such purpose, which should have representatives from hotels, industry, educationists and others. We have to take all the suggestions into consideration.”
She further said, “It is impossible for the government to clean the State. People of Goa should take responsibility of cleaning the state. Government is like salt in any dish. A dish is incomplete without salt. In a same way government’s aid is always there, but people’s participation is very important.”
Parsekar said, “Though tourists say that Goa is clean, we need to make it cleaner as at many parts there is a scope for cleaning. Councillors and panchayat members should take responsibility from the grassroots level.”
