PANJIM: Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Tuesday said the State government is very keen to protect the interest of Goa in the Mhadei River water dispute case.

“The State government is very keen to protect the interest of Goa in the Mhadei River dispute. Vigorous efforts are being made to stop any diversion of Mhadei river waters to Karnataka,” Koshyari said in a video message released on the occasion of Republic Day.

Being a full-time Governor of Maharashtra State, Koshyari was not present for the Republic Day parade in Goa.

The Governor congratulated the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, his cabinet, officers, doctors and corona warriors for successfully controlling the spread of COVID-19 virus in the State.

Koshyari said that in spite various challenges arising from the pandemic, the government has rolled out numerous policies and programmes demonstrating its concern for the well being of the citizens. He said the tourism industry has been opened up and is gaining momentum.

“Since September 2020, there has been significant development of infrastructure by way of national and state highways,” he said announcing that the prestigious eight-lane Zuari Bridge will be shortly completed and commissioned while the work of Greenfield International Airport at Mopa is progressing at a rapid pace.

He said Goa is a peaceful state and the government is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for its citizens and tourists.

The Governor said the State is committed to be in the first three ranks in the forthcoming SDGs-sustainable development goals.

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the remarkable job in containing the spread of virus.

“It is further matter of pride that within a short period of nine months, we have indigenously been able to develop anti-COVID vaccine and roll out the world’s largest vaccination programme, which is going on successfully across country,” he said adding ‘the world today acknowledges India’s commendable work to combat COVID-19’.
