CANACONA: Emphasizing that children are valuable assets, Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo has said the country needed skilled manpower to make it a world super power.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the six-day Regional Children’s Science Congress of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Pune region, which got underway at Jawahar Navodayala Vidyalaya, Canacona on Thursday. About 120 students of various Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) institutes of Pune Region, consisting of Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat, are participating in the meet.
“Science is very important in life and only through science that people can achieve many things in their lives. Each one needs to contribute individually to make our country a self reliant nation and our students are capable of doing that,” said Wanchoo.
“We need to develop skill with a scientific approach, in a fast developing world where innovative technologies become order of the day. Our country needs skilled manpower to make it a super power,” he added.
The Governor, however, sounded a word of caution and emphasized the need to balance science, technology and humanity. “We should not be like a machine. Remember incomplete education is dangerous too,” he said.
Sports and Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, ICAR (Goa) Director Dr N P Singh, NVS (Pune Region) Dy Commissioner Akhilesh B Bhardwaj and NVS (Pune Region) Asst Commissioner S S Divakar also spoke .
