PANJIM: After the State government refused to comply with the Lokayuktas’ recommendations on the ‘beach dustbin scam’ of the Tourism Department, the Bombay High Court (HC) has now directed the State to file its reply on the matter by January 14, 2022.
It may be recalled that former Lokayukta P K Misra had recommended that a high ranking Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) officer carry out an inquiry into the alleged irregularities concerning the purchase of dustbins installed across beaches. He had also said that appropriate action should be taken including prosecution of those individuals found liable for offences.
On Friday, the division bench of the Bombay HC comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and M S Jawalkar, issued notices to the respondents including the government.
The respondents were also asked to give an advance copy of their affidavit to the counsel of the petitioner Inacio Domnic Pereira.
When the petitioner was contacted for his reaction, he said he has full faith in the judiciary and declined to comment further as the matter is sub-judice.
