PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has sought details of a structure jutting in the government property at St Inez, Panjim.
During their site visit of the ongoing works in the capital city under Smart City Mission, Justice Mahesh Sonak and Justice Valmiki SA Menezes noticed a structure jutting out at the Crucial Y-junction near Sheetal Hotel at St Inez. They were informed that it might be an encroachment on government property and the Judges have now stated that the State or any of its concerned departments must take immediate steps to ensure the removal of this encroachment so that there is no hindrance to the smooth flow of traffic at this crucial junction.
The High Court has further asked the concerned officials of the State government to inform them of this issue on the next date i.e. on April 17, 2024. If this is indeed an encroachment, the Court would like to know why no steps have been taken to remove this encroachment.
In October last year, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) had removed an illegal hoarding, erected by a sweet mart at the road intersection, as it was causing obstruction to the vehicular traffic. Senior Adv S D Lotlikar who has been appointed as amicus curiae, had submitted that illegal hoardings at Santa Inez junction was causing obstruction to the vehicular traffic.
