PANJIM: The High Court on Thursday directed that notices be issued to the CCP, Goa Government and the 21 nominated members on the seven ward committees constituted by the CCP.

The HC while seeking an explanation from the CCP and State Government has directed those 21 appointed to file an affidavit about their qualifications. The Bench of Justices M S Sonak and M S Jawalkar further directed that all the affidavits be filed by August 25 and fixed the matter for hearing on August 27.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues on Wednesday had filed a petition alleging illegal constitution of the ward committees by CCP and pointed out to Section 41 of the CCP Act that mandates three non-official members on each ward committee be mandatorily from amongst the members of recognized non-governmental organisations and community-based organisations engaged in social welfare activities working within the area of the ward committee.
In reality, the petition stated that requirement has not been complied with by the CCP as 3 nominated members on the 7 ward committees formed by the CCP on June 18, 2020 did not have the qualifications required in terms of Section 41 of the CCP Act.
