Headmistress of Malkarnem Govt High School becomes youngest to get National Award

Sindhu Prabhu Desai makes it to the list of 47 teachers from across the country, who have been selected for the prestigious award; President of India Ramnath Kovind will address the function through video conferencing

Panjim: Headmistress of Malkarnem- Quepem Government High School Sindhu Prabhu Desai Nayak became the youngest to be honoured with the ‘National Award to Teachers 2020’, for her remarkable contribution in the field of education. 

The State Level Teacher’s Day, which is usually celebrated on September 5, to mark the birth of anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, now stands postponed in view of the State mourning the death of former President of India Pranab Mukherjee. 

The award function will be celebrated at a later date. 

Meanwhile, the headmistress will be presented the award certificate and silver medal at the hands of South Goa Collector Ajit Roy on Saturday. 

Due to the pandemic situation, the award function will be held through a webinar using the NIC platform. The President of India Ramnath Kovind will address the function through video conferencing.  

All together 47 teachers have been selected across country for National Award.

“Sindhu Prabhu Desai is the youngest recipient of this Prestigious Award from Goa,” the government said in a statement issued. 

She has done her Masters in Chemistry with Bachelors in Education. She is a Gold Medalist in Chemistry from Goa University. With around fourteen years of experience in the field of Education, Prabhu Desai has served in St. Xavier’s College, Dhempe College and Government College Quepem. She has also worked as senior subject matter expert in chemistry and an English reviewer in Pearson Education Limited, a multinational Educational Software Company in Bangalore.

 Prabhu Desai had topped Goa Public Service Commission Examination 

She is also the recipient of National Award conferred by “Shikshak Vikas Parishad”. She has also been awarded by the JCI for the remarkable contribution in Education on Women’s Day 2020 amongst other honours.

 “I am elated to receive the National Award. It is an overwhelming experience for me. I am glad that my dedicated efforts as a team leader have won nationwide acclaim,” she said while dedicating the award to the people of Malkarnem Village which includes parents, students; SMC members and the entire squad of Govt High School Malkarnem for their co-operation and collective efforts in making the planned strategies successful in uplifting the school.

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat had also posted a message on his social media accounts congratulating her on this recognition. 

“Congratulations to Sindhu Samith Nayak (Prabhudessai), Principal of Government High School, Mallkarnem on her selection for National Award to Teachers-2020 by Union Ministry of Education. Goa is proud of her,” said Kamat.
