Mapusa: The village panchayats of Bardez taluka on Friday raised objections and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the circular issued to them by the Directorate of Panchayat (DoP).
The circular issued states that all the files of the tendered works to be taken up in the village, should now be sent to DoP for the approval, which at present is done by the Block Development Officer of each taluka.

During their meeting, sarpanchas and panchas said if the circular is implemented, then it is a threat to the panchayats, wherein the government will have control over the tendered works in the villages and finance of the local bodies in the State.
They decided to pass a resolution objecting to this circular and further suggested holding a meeting in Panjim involving all the panchayats in the State to put more pressure on the government to withdraw the circular.
They added that if needed, they will go on hunger strike.
