Health Advisory panel gets approval

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday granted its approval for constituting Health Advisory Committee under Secretary Health to advise government on various modalities for completion and commissioning of some of the major projects including the new South Goa District Hospital and private medical college, super speciality block amongst others. 

The seven-member committee will also advise government on commissioning of Tuem 120 bedded hospital and strengthening of facilities for Tertiary Care Cancer Centre (TCCC). 

As per the Cabinet note, the work towards construction of South Goa District Hospital at Margao undertaken by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) is nearing completion and will be handed over to government shortly. The State’s first private medical college will be attached to the hospital. 

The construction work of setting up of Super speciality block at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), under Phase III of Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana scheme is entrusted to M/s HSCC Ltd and the work is almost 76.5 per cent complete, which includes exterior and interior works. 

The total amount of the scheme is Rs 386.35 crore, wherein Central share is Rs 120 crore and of which the amount released is Rs 107.26 crore. The State share is Rs 266.35 crore and the amount sanctioned so far is Rs 160 crore and amount yet to be sanctioned is Rs 106.35 crore. 

The strengthening of facilities is envisaged under the tertiary care component of the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, in 12th Five Year Plan. 

The civil construction cost is to the tune of Rs 150.39 crore, cost of medical equipment is Rs 96.37 crore and recurring cost is almost Rs 13 crore. While the Centre’s share is only Rs 27 crore, the balance Rs 232.75 crore is State’s share. 

Centre has so far sanctioned Rs 8.35 crore and State has sanctioned Rs 5.56 crore.
