Health Minister apologises for discrimination of patient at GMC

Orders probe into the episode

PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday apologised for discrimination of a Vasco resident at Goa Medical College and ordered an inquiry into the episode.

A woman patient from Vasco was allegedly refused treatment at the hospital. Her distraught husband later released a video on the discrimination and sought justice.

Rane said that he has sought the report from the concerned authorities on the allegation that the woman was refused treatment at GMC when she told the doctor that she hails from Vasco.

Rane said the authorities will get in contact with the concerned patient and get the details about the incident to proceed with the inquiry. He apologised for the discrimination while claiming that doctors also have fear in mind regarding the infection.

Considering the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the minister said all the patients visiting GMC will be screened at the entrance.

The Health Department will undertake mass testing facilities in the industrial areas through specially setup kiosks. The industries are asked to identify COVID-19 Care Centres in close vicinity and suggest the same to the Health Department.
