Health official urges Ponda locals to avoid social gatherings

PONDA: Around 250 people above the age group of 45 years including males and females were vaccinated in special a COVID-19 vaccination drive held at Saraswati High School, Kavlem.

The vaccination programme organised by Kavlem Panchayat, Health Department and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp. 

Health Officer Dr Smitha Parsekar, Dr Shefali, Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, Adv Santosh Ramnathkar, Zilla Panchayat member Ganapat Naik were present on occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhavalikar stressed that more awareness is needed to increase the vaccination drive. He appealed to the people to keep aside fear and get vaccinated for the safety of their family and society. 

Dr Smitha said that the vaccine would increase the immunity power of the body. She urged the people to avoid social gatherings such as marriages and other various functions.

“Even after vaccination, people need to wear mask and observe social distancing, hand washing as COVID cases are increasing,” she added.

Dr Smitha said, “Health staff is working 24×7 by sacrificing their personal life. There are 400 COVID cases in Ponda Taluka. Some are in home isolation and we are also monitoring them on daily basis.” 

She appealed to the people to cooperate with the Health Department in preventing infections.
