QUEPEM: After the PWD demolished encroachment at fish and chicken market near Sanvordem Bridge, the health and sanitary officers along with Sanvordem sarpanch inspected it after receiving complaints regarding sanitation, wet and dry waste issue.
According to the sources, the complaints stated that sewage water was released into the river and wet and dry garbage was dumped by the roadside.
Curchorem-Cacora Community Health Centre Health Officer Mohanrao Desai said, “Dry and wet garbage was strewn by the roadside and sewage water was released into the river.”
He said, “I have given strict directions to the vendors and village panchayat over the garbage menace and asked the panchayat to make proper arrangements for the disposal of garbage if the local body is allowing business to take place here.”
Curchorem-Cacora Community Health Centre Sanitary Officer will also submit his report to the health centre and accordingly will direct the panchayat to take action over release of sewage water into river so that there will be no health hazard issue in the surrounding areas.
Sanvordem Sarpanch Sandip Pawaskar said that the panchayat always tells the vendors to keep the market area clean and every day collects plastic waste from the area.
Pawaskar said, “I was surprised that during the inspection of fish and chicken market by the health and sanitary officers they found the area strewn by wet and dry waste.”
“Today, I have given strict direction to the fish and chicken vendors that the garbage should be cleared with 24 hours from this place and in future will not allow such careless attitude of the vendors,” he added.
