Hearing adjourned as lawyer tests COVID positive

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday adjourned the ongoing hearing in Tarun Tejpal case to December 12 after one of his lawyers tested positive for COVID-19.

Advocate Raunaq Rao, representing the senior journalist accused, told a division bench of Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice M S Jawalkar that a lawyer briefing their senior counsel Amit Desai tested COVID-19 positive, and has therefore requested a postponement.

The court granted the request.

The High Court had last month rejected an application of Tejpal seeking in-camera hearing of the appeal filed by Goa government challenging his acquittal in a sexual assault case.

After pronouncing the order, the Court asked the counsel when they want to proceed with the submissions seeking leave to appeal to which the defense had said they will challenge the present order. The Court had then listed the appeal for directions on December 6, 2021.
