MARGAO: The Margao Fire Station personnel were on kept their toes on the second day of the heavy rainfalls triggered by Cyclone Nisarga, on Tuesday.
However, due to the dead landline phone of the fire station, all the calls were diverted to Panjim station.
The Margao fire personnel attended atleast nine calls of various tree fall cases across Salcete and even one in Quepem.
All the three vehicles of the station were occupied till late night. Tree falls on the roads were recorded in Curtorim, Betalbatim, Quitla and Sernabatim and on the houses at Seraulim, Navelim, Jaknibandh, Chinchinim and Benaulim.
Till evening, the team of Margao fire station were occupied at three different locations while two calls of tree falls were pending.
The sand on the beaches of the Salcete coast also got washed away by the strong waves triggered from Cyclone Nisarga.
