PANJIM: The North Goa District Administration has prohibited the movement of heavy vehicles and multi-axle vehicles coming from Banastarim Bridge to Merces Circle on NH-748 from 12 noon to 9 pm in the night till January 5, 2023.
As the District Administration has closed Ponda side arm of Atal Setu for undertaking of maintenance and rectification work of bridge deck from December 5 the traffic has spilled on to the main roads below. The influx of heavy vehicles has resulted in a traffic chaos in the peak tourism days.
The Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Panjim had informed that due to the onset of tourist season and lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, movement of vehicular traffic has increased manifold at Merces Circle and closing of Ponda side arm of Atal Setu. This has caused unwarranted traffic congestion as movement of heavy and multi-axle vehicles add to the traffic woes.
The recommended changes have been brought in force with immediate effect.
