MARGAO: The repairs works of all sulabh sauchalayas in Margao got initiated within 24 hours of publishing the news by Herald highlighting the dilapidated conditions of some of the public toilets in Margao.
In its weekly Margao Page, Herald highlighted the bad conditions of Sulabh Sauchalayas in Margao and the effort has paid off. The Sulabh International Agency, which is looking after the toilets in Margao, has started repairing the toilets which were in bad condition.
Honorary Controller of the Sulabh International Agency Sushil Kumar told Herald that the work of painting and replacing fixtures and the repairs of doors and others has been started.
“The work on sulabhs at old fish market and behind the Kurtarkar building and also the one behind Vishant theatre has been initiated and will complete soon,” Kumar told.
“We generally start the works after rains are over and most importantly we have been spending our money for the maintenance of the Sulabhs in Margao,” he added.
The controller further informed that the works are done under some standard set procedures and quality and is applicable throughout their operations.
The Sulabh International Agency runs over 135 sulabhs in Goa and has tie-ups with local self governments for quite some time now.
It may be recalled that Herald had on its Margao page highlighted the plight of the sulabhs followed by Shadow Council which also protested at the public toilets in order to attract attention of the responsible agencies.
