The Salcete Sub-Registrar Office is also hit by manpower shortage. It’s now over a month since an Additional Sub-Registrar was shunted out of Salcete, but his replacement is yet to come in till date, with senior officials attributing the delay to the Election Code of Conduct. It has also come to light that the Sub-Registrar’s Office is also hit by shortage of LDCs. Though the contract workers have come in handy to reduce the burden on the existing staff, services of the contract staff cannot be utilised in all works given the liabilities involved. When contacted Sub-Registrar Suraj Vernekar said the government has cleared the proposal to recruit the LDCs. “I think the delay is on account of the intervening Election Code of Conduct. I will pursue the proposal with the government for early appointment of the sanctioned staff,” he said.
