PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant has instructed all the school headmasters to submit the list of retired teachers whose pensions are pending within a week’s time.
Dr Sawant swung into action after several teachers complained about their pension being kept on hold for more than two years. Herald had earlier this week reported how Accounts Department has kept on hold the pensions of over 30 teachers for last two years without a specific reason.
“All the headmasters have been instructed to immediately, within a week, submit list of the retired teachers whose pensions are pending,” a senior official from Education Department said.
He said that the headmasters will also have to submit the details on which stage the file is pending.
“The schools will have to submit the report of each individual pension case. Government will act accordingly,” official said.
The Education Department has also asked all its zonal offices to submit the list of retired teachers who are awaiting their pension and the same would be cross checked with the records submitted by the schools.
“The chief minister is very serious in the matter and has instructed that necessary action has to be initiated against the officers responsible for the delay,” official said.
Dr Sawant had earlier informed media that money is not the problem for pending pensions.
