Dr Pankaj Shukla, Head of the Skin Department at GMC, refuted the bribery and harassment allegations against “seniors” of the department as baseless. Speaking to Herald, Dr Shukla, who was the convenor of this exam said the results were delayed due to rectification of marks.
“The exams of MD were held on August 29 but two days later I informed in writing to the Goa University that there was error in submission of marks as the question paper was of 100 marks and not 50,” Dr Shukla said.
He said that, however, he was surprised that on September 19 the results of the concerned MD student were not declared as he thought everything had been sorted out by GU. “…but I was told by GU that the results would be delayed further as the external examiners were on vacation,” he stated.
Asked whether he has a copy of communication he made to GU he replied in the negative. Despite this, he continued, “I spoke to the girl and told her that things would be sorted out soon.”
“Again the day after the results were declared on October
27, I sent her an SMS saying her results were out and even apologised for the delay,” Dr Shukla said.
While he showed the SMS sent to the MD student, now a full-fledged doctor, he surprisingly maintained that he had no copy of his communication to the Goa University exam cell, asking for rectification of her marks, since she was assessed out of 50 whereas she should been assessed out of 100.
As far as the harassment duties, he said when you are doing MD you should be ready for hard duties. “Besides skin department has the easiest of duties,” he said.
