MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Thursday requested the Governor of Goa and State government to postpone the Assembly Session and summon it after Easter.
Referring to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyariji summoning the 14th Session of the Seventh Legislative Assembly of Goa from March 24 to April 12, Reginaldo requested the Governor not to hold the said session in the Holy Week, which starts from March 28 leading to Holy Maundy Thursday (Last Supper of Jesus Christ on April 1), The Good Friday (Crucifixion of Lord Jesus Christ) on April 2 and culminates on Easter Sunday (Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ) on April 4. He said that the Holy Week is very special for Christians on Lord’s Passion and it is observed by fasting and abstinence.
“If the Assembly Session is allowed during the Holy Week the sentiment of the Christian community in Goa will be hurt as they would not be able to take part in it,” he informed.
He requested not to hold the upcoming Assembly Session in the Holy Week or to postpone the entire season after Easter.
