Recommends action against erring workers for ‘minor lapse’

An inquiry conducted into the death of a lady patient at Hospicio did not find any major serious lapse, but has reportedly recommended action against the erring Hospital staff for the “minor lapse” of not providing oxygen to the patient.
Hospicio Medical Superintendent Dr Ruando De Sa has completed the inquiry into the episode following violent incident at the hospital on Monday and has handed over the report to the Director of Health Services Dr Rajananda Desai for appropriate action. “The report has taken into account various aspects of the Monday episode, including the version of the patient’s relatives as well as the sister and the servants on duty”, Dr De Sa told Herald this evening after handing the report to the Health Director.
Sources in the know said though the inquiry did not come across any major lapse, the inquiry has taken note of the fact that the patient, who was gasping for breath following severe respiratory problem, was not given oxygen between the times she was taken out from the female ward to the ambulance.
When contacted, the Director of Health services said the inquiry did not come across any major serious lapse. “I have not gone through the report, but the Hospicio medical superintendent has concluded that there was no major lapse. Whatever minor lapses that the authorities came across during the inquiry will be dealt with appropriately”, Dr Desai said.
Hospicio was in the news on Monday after a 52-year old woman Dilshad Bi died at hospital and her close relatives attributed her death to the long-delay in giving her oxygen facility.
In fact, her son had complained to the Hospicio authorities though his mother was gasping for breath, the two servants on duty literally declined to give oxygen to his mother saying it was not their duty. The death of the woman evoked angry protests from her relatives who went on a rampage breaking glass panes and doors outside the cabin of the medical superintendent.
