MARGAO: Thanks to a complaint lodged by Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Dr Babita Prabhudessai, Margao Town Police this evening arrested an employee of a nearby hotel for dumping kitchen waste in a public place at Comba.
Dr Babita saw the person dumping waste by the roadside and immediately called up Police Inspector Kapil Nayak who dispatched a team and got the the person arrested .
He was subsequently released on bail as he was booked under section 34(V) of the Indian Police Act which is a bailable offence. Raghvendra Pai manager of Sabina Hotel where Atul Ukey was working stood surety for his release.
“For the last eight months we are asking the MMC to provide us with bins to keep the garbage, but they have not given any bin nor do they collect the garbage regularly and that is why we throw the garbage in public dust bins,” Raghvendra said.
He said the garbage was not dumped by the road side but kept at a place where there were dustbins earlier but the same were removed today.
Incidentally, nobody knows what happened to the two bag full of garbage consisting of empty milk packets, onion peels and other vegetable waste that the boy had kept by the road side as it was not seized by the police nor did the hotel take it away.
