House congratulates Padma Shree awardees

PANJIM, MARCH 22
The Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday congratulated Dr Maria Aurora Couto and Rev Fr Romualdo D’Souza for receiving Padma Shree Awards and Konkani writer Jess Fernandes for winning the Sahitya Academi award.
The congratulatory motions were moved by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
Kamat also moved motion to congratulate Padma Vibhushan Dr Anil Kakodkar for receiving first Gomant Vibhushan Award”.
In his speech Kamat hailed Kakodkar as the architect of the India-US nuclear deal.
“Right from the start till the deal was signed Kakodkar was the key person,” he said adding “Kakodkar has not only made Goa but the entire India proud by this achievement.”
Dy Speaker Mauvin Godinho also congratulated Dr Kakodkar, who he said had shown the world the talent of Goans.
The House also congratulated Jess Fernandes for receiving Sahitya Academy Award and Mukesh Thali and Vishnu Wagh for receiving Kala Academy Literature Awards”.
Sachin congratulated: The Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday congratulated master blaster Sachin Tendulkar for creating history and world record by scoring unbeaten 200 runs in the Gwalior one-day international against South Africa last month.
The motion was moved by Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar, who said Tendulkar’s feat was historic and will be remembered forever.
Parrikar also hailed Tendulkar for being a simple person and the fitness level, which he has maintained.
Aldona MLA and Goa Cricket Association president congratulated Tendulkar for the commitment to the game even at the age of 36.
Sports Minister Babu Azgaonkar said that the government will felicitate Tendulkar whenever the cricketer gets time to attend the function in near future.
St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes, Dy Speaker Mauvin Godinho, Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar and Chief Minister Digamabar Kamat also congratulated Tendulkar for achieving the feat.
