PANJIM, MARCH 22
Adv Harsha Naik, whose appointment as President of the North Goa Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum had come under a cloud due to her age, on Monday, received her termination order which was issued by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
Confirming this fact, Director of Civil Supplies Gurudas Pilarnekar said Adv Harsha had received the termination order today because she fell short of age (i.e. 35 years) to hold the post. We received representations stating her appointment was contrary to law as she was just 32 in age, he mentioned. In a day or two, we will advertise for appointing a fresh president for the forum, he informed.
Even though the legal fraternity members expressed happiness
over Adv Harsha’s termination order, they appeared disappointed over the fresh advertisement for the post. They maintained efforts have to be made to appoint a president from the four to five candidates, including Adv Harsha, who were interviewed for the post last time.
Pilarnekar said the candidates interviewed for appointment of the forum’s president in December 2009 were not found eligible for the post. Some of them haven’t been able to produce certificates from the Bar Council, while one of them is on waiting list, he stated.
Sources said there were possibilities that the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission had taken strong note of the media reports in a section of the press on the controversy surrounding appointment of Adv Harsha.
