PANJIM: Minister for Housing Milind Naik on Friday assured the State legislative Assembly to come out with high standard housing projects befitting the standard of living of Goans, with increased built up area under the Housing Board. He also promised 3000 houses at affordable rates for Goans in the near future.

The Housing Minister also assured to see that maintenance is done for existing flats, many of which are in dilapidated condition. He said 3000 houses would be constructed at affordable rates for Goans.

Naik said that government has already acquired land for various housing boards and is likely to acquire more land to cope with the increasing need for housing.

Minister was responding to Congress MLA Mauvin Godinho who flayed poor quality housing colonies, which normal Goan would not opt for. Pointing to the size of each plot, which ranges between 17 to 60 sq metres, Godinho said ‘these small size houses are mostly dedicated to migrants’.

“Goan’s have become foreigners in their own land,” he said demanding improved quality of housing in keeping with private housing colonies which offer good amenities.
