How is Margao float parade being held on old route? asks HC

PANJIM: The High Court (HC) of Bombay at Goa has sought an explanation from the authorities over permission to hold the Carnival float parade on the traditional route in Margao town.

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) had earlier this month decided to hold the Carnival Parade in Fatorda but the Carnival Committee Chairman Arthur D’Silva announced that the parade will be held on the old route in Margao town. The parade, which is scheduled to take place on the old route for several years, had been shifted to Fatorda three years ago.

The permission for holding the parade on the National Highway in the town has reportedly not been granted till date even as the four-day-long-festival begins on Saturday in Panjim. Margao’s float parade will be held on Sunday. The HC has asked the authorities to file an affidavit explaining on what ground, permission to hold the parade on the NH is being considered. The matter will be heard on Friday.
