PANJIM: The Catholic Association of Goa (CAG) has extended its support to the rally called by Goa Alliance against CAA-NRC-NPR on Friday in Panjim and has appealed to all to attend the rally in large numbers to express their solidarity with those who feel that CAA is fundamentally flawed, illegal, immoral and unconstitutional.
The CAG, in a press note issued here, has strongly supported the “bold and courageous” statement of Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, who expressed his “sincere concerns and apprehensions” about the CAA-NRC-NPR

“As rightly pointed out by him CAA-NRC-NPR goes against the secular fabric of the country and is against the spirit and heritage of our land,” the press note states.
CAG says that it believes that with countless other concerned Indians that CAA in its present form, whereby religion is being overtly used for the first time as a criterion for citizenship, is fundamentally discriminatory and divisive in nature and that it is at odds with secular principles enshrined in the Constitution and contradicts Articles 13, 14, 15, 16 and 21 which guarantees to every citizen the right to equality, equality before the law, and non-discriminatory treatment by the State.
