PONDA: An alert citizen saved lives after a huge manhole suddenly caved in on the GVM Farmagudi to Dhavali bypass of National Highway on the Margao road.
The sewerage manhole gave way at around 4.30 pm on the highway slope behind the GVM building. The speeding vehicles were unaware about incident and a woman uploaded a video of the damaged chamber and forwarded to social worker Viraj Sapre.
Sapre immediately alerted the sewerage officials who swung into action and manned the area alerting vehicles with the use of torchlight. Finally, the traffic police and sewerage officials barricaded the area at around 9.15 pm.
