CALANGUTE: SP (North) Nidhin Valsan has said the allegations reportedly made by Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand about non-cooperation by Goa police in investigations are not true.
Speaking to reporters at the Calangute Police Station on Tuesday, the SP said the allegations have no substance. “If you go purely by statistics, there are 25 cases in which we have given immediate help to police of other States – Maharashtra Police and Karnataka Police. Even Telangana, Hyderabad Cyber Police, Hyderabad Police, and Hyderabad Narcotics Police have come to us and we have immediately helped them. Whenever they approach us through proper official channels, we immediately give them support,” he said.
He said that besides the 25 cases from North Goa, there were also other cases in South Goa and ANC. “Recently there was a murder case in Kerala and the accused was hiding in Goa. There was an extortion case in Karnataka where the accused were traced in Goa,” SP Valsan pointed out.

SP meets tourism stakeholders after extortion racket reports
CALANGUTE: SP (North) Nidhin Valsan on Tuesday met tourism stakeholders from the Calangute-Candolim tourism hub following the recent allegations of an extortion racket and comments made by the Tourism Minister about illegalities there.
“Recently there were some reports about an extortion racket going on in the Calangute area and there have been so many things on social media. So I thought I should directly interact with the people if there are any issues regarding this, but nobody has raised any concerns,” the SP said.
He said, “There was a letter on social media that was signed by seven persons. As SP I had an inquiry, but we were not able to identify who had sent it.”
“It was sent from a phone number in Vietnam. Then two persons came to us and said their signatures were matching, but were forged. It was basically anonymous. Unless somebody comes to make a complaint, it will be very difficult to make an inquiry,” he said.
“I interacted directly with the people here. It has been brought to my notice that they are happy with the local police. There are some issues of loud music, beggars, and prostitution, but they are thankful to the police for their support wherever required,” he said.
