CUNCOLIM: Former Cuncolim MLA Joaquim Alemao, who had given a 15-day ultimatum to Congress High Command to decide upon his ticket, now says he would wait for the party’s decision since the candidate selection process is still ongoing.
“I am confident that the party high command will give me another chance to contest the assembly elections on Congress ticket. I am a loyal Congress man and I will not leave the party in a hurry. I will wait till the party announces its complete list of candidates for the election. If the party does not nominate me, then, I am ready to face the election as an Independent,” Joaquim told Herald.
He said that he had met Digvijay Singh recently and got a positive say from Singh. “Cuncolim Block has not proposed my name for Cuncolim seat. So, I have asked party to clarify its stand on nominating me. To this, the party told me that South Goa District Congress Committee has proposed my name as candidate and it has sent it to Pradesh Congress Committee,” he said.
“I am confident that I will get the Congress ticket. The party is not a fool to sideline me, as I have represented party twice and have been a loyal soldier,” Joaquim said.
He said that he would kick off his house-to-house campaign from December 4 as Congress candidate.
