Illegalities in HSRP tenders to be probed
HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, JUNE 25
The State government today decided to accept recommendations of the high profile committee to probe the illegalities in the tendering process of the high security number plates (HSRPs).
Chief Minister Digamabar Kamat addressing a press conference said that the cabinet meeting held today has decided to ask the chief secretary to proceed as per law.
“The committee had recommended that the contract should be re-tendered,” Kamat said.
The Srivastava Committee, formed by the government to study implementation of high security registration plates (HSRP), had pulled up the authorities for shoddy tendering process in its report tabled at the State assembly here today.
The committee report, headed by Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava, said that the reasonability of the number plates should have been considered by the Transport Department before finalising the contract.
The committee has said that additional 48 per cent on replacement of new registration plates was added to the tender after it was finalised.
“The footnote (adding extra charge on replacement) appears to have been recorded after opening of the financial bid and is signed by representative of the company and not endorsed by the committee members appointed by the government,” the committee report reads.
The committee has also said that the company’s experience of working with five countries was not cross checked by the State government by writing to the respective embassies.
