Alike fishing industry, Goa’s private bus business too is largely dependent on non-Goans to mend with their skilled requirements.
“In absence of local skilled manpower’s like drivers and ticket conductors, the business is largely dependent on migrants,” AGPBOA general secretary Sudip Tamankar said.
He confirmed that more then 40 percent of workers are migrants, who come from states like Bihar and Tamil Nadu.
“Almost 60 percent conductors and 40 percent drivers are from outside Goa,” he told reporters today morning.
Tamankar lamented that most of their workers (conductors and drivers) after taking proper training from them prefer to join KTC due to availability of various benefits.
“In KTC they enjoy the benefit of pension, sixth pay commission and a very good salary,” he said. The other reason, he said that there is no good work relation between conductors and drivers and the bus owners.
Tamankar feels that there is need to have control on the increasing number of migrants in their business.
