PANJIM: The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has undertaken a developmental project ‘Development of Pedestrian Spine and Revitalisation of Patto area, which is expected to be completed by August 2023’.
Stating that the city of Panjim is in dire straits and requires a recreational zone along with a walking track with better connectivity, the official of IPSCDL informed that the project is coming up in the vacant land behind SBI Patto, to be built in the area admeasuring 15,000 square metres.
“The project that costs Rs 27 crore will be taken up under the Smart Cities Mission,” informed the official.
Elucidating about the reason behind taking up this work of development, the official said, “There exist many issues in the city including the requirement of green space as a leisure area for the residents of Fontainhas and Mala, a play area for children of Neugi Nagar and others.”
Adding he said that the triangular parcel of land behind SBI Bank at Patto that belongs to the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) was being used as a dumping site and there was a need to revive this land. Also, an island in Ourem Creek does not have any access to the EDC area. In addition to this, many mangrove trees lie along the Ourem creek which need to be protected. The Santa Monica Jetty has only one access near Divja Circle and the corresponding parking is on the other side with no proper connection. “The proposed project will address all these issues,” he added.
Informing about the plan, the official said that the triangular parcel of land behind SBI Bank is planned to be developed as a botanical garden along with a children’s play area, skate park and indoor artificial climbing wall which will emerge as Goa’s first ever indoor artificial climbing wall.
