PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Red Warning’ for Goa, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall in both North and South districts. The warning highlights the potential for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.
The heavy rainfall is expected to have several impacts during the forecasting period, including short-term waterlogging and flooding of roads and low-lying areas. There is a risk of water entering homes in low-lying areas and the fall of weak trees and structures. Municipal services such as water and electricity may face localised and short-term disruptions. Urban or city areas may experience inundation and flooding.
Additionally, road and rail traffic congestion is possible, and there could be damage to standing crops and vegetables. Coastal areas may witness rough sea conditions, and river and canal water levels may temporarily rise to danger levels. Localised mudslides and landslides may occur in vulnerable areas, and there may be temporary reductions in visibility during intense rainfall. In light of these warnings, the general public is advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety and minimise risks associated with heavy rainfall.
