PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said that in more than 90 percent of cases of rape, the rapist is known to the victim, and oftentimes, part of the same household. Speaking about leading an ethical and wholesome life, Sawant also urged the youngsters of Goa not to fall prey to the trafficking of drugs, with a desire to get rich soon.
Sawant also dispensed some advice to landlords in Goa and said that Goans should stop renting out their houses to questionable strangers for negligible amounts of money. “Goans should stop having trust in unknown persons unnecessarily, as these are the persons who commit crimes like rape.”
“The crime detection rate of Goa is high but we have to make sure that we try to prevent these crimes from happening in the first place. Goans have to be alert; we need the cooperation of people to control crime,” he said.
While speaking on the menace of drug trafficking and abuse in Goa, Sawant said, “Some are falling prey to drug trafficking simply to get rich fast.”
“When I visited the prison, I saw boys from villages who had fallen prey to the lure of peddling drugs as they wanted to get rich fast. I urge Goans to
inform the police if they come across such cases,” he added.
